One Churches Ministry of Engaging Community

posted on January 23

This year South Shore First UMC has been active in community development while fostering the Kingdom of God through missional outreach, community engagement, resource networking, and development of a long term plan for our future needs.

This year to date, we have committed over $17,000.00 to missions, outreach, and community development. We are working with community partners like Helping Hands, GREAT (Greenup Residents Ending Addiction Together), Cokesbury Recovery at South Shore our Ministerial Association and local businesses to address issues of poverty, addiction, and positive childhood development. This year, one-fifth of our budget is dedicated to serving God through serving others in some capacity.

Through our Women in Mission Community Development Ministry, we have partnered with local young mothers in crisis at the Cradle Pregnancy Center, provided hygiene products and undergarments free for our Elementary and Middle Schoolers, and worked with Safe Harbor to help with emergency, transitional, and advocacy needs.

We have partnered, through our ministerial association and local businesses, to provide shoes and socks for every single child in our local Elementary and Middle schools. Through the association, every child in the Elementary school received their school supplies free of charge.

Our goal is to continue to foster the transformational grace of God throughout the community of South Shore and the North-Eastern Kentucky Region by the power of the Holy Spirit. We firmly believe that God's love can change the individual lives of our friends, neighbors, and community leaders. This transformation will in turn, bring about the transformation of our community, our country, and our world.
