Charge Conferences

We will be doing Charge Conferences in regional gatherings again this year. Each combined Conference will include a time of worship, sharing, and celebration. The business part of the meeting will consist of a time of affirming the decisions you have made in an Administrative Board or Council meeting prior to the Charge Conference. 
 
For planning purposes, the online forms should be completed, and the two required signature forms should be mailed to the District Office no later than 7 days prior to your scheduled Charge Conference (this is not optional).   Please send your forms to Jessica Wells by email or mail at PO Box 911090 Lexington, KY 40591

You will want to plan and schedule a Church/Administrative Board/Council meeting prior to your Charge Conference (remembering that the deadline for completion of this work is 7 days prior to the Charge Conference) so that your local church (or churches) can discuss and vote on those matters requiring a vote. We will officially confirm those votes at the Charge Conference. The votes you should have prior to the Charge Conference should include the following items:

  • Clergy Compensation Report for any appointed clergy
  • 2023 Team Nominations
  • Finance Report (includes Our Mission Covenant)
  • Trustees Report
  • Recommendations (if any) for Lay Servant
  • Recommendations (if any) for first-time, and for continuing candidates for ministry
  • The removal of any names from Membership by Charge Conference action. 
 
The schedule for the Charge Conference is as follows:
 
Sunday, October 22, 2023 – 6pm: Morehead UMC to be the host site for Elliott, Morgan, Rowan counties. 
 
Sunday, November 5, 2023 – 6pm: Prestonsburg First UMC to be the host site for Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, and Pike counties. 

Monday, November 6, 2023 – 7pm: Greenup UMC to be the host site for Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lewis counties. 
 
Our goal is for the Conferences to last only an hour, but certainly no more than 90 minutes. If you have questions regarding preparations for Charge Conference, please reach out to Jessica at the District Office, jwells@kyumc.org or 859-299-6260.
